Pre-test and Post-test Comparison
The pre-test and post-tests closely reflected each other. Data from the pre-test ensured that students did not learn the content prior to the implementation of the unit. At the same time, the data was used to ensure that I focused more on areas that students had zero contact with. For example (according to the pre-test), very few students understood that the key for nations to resist imperialism was modernization. Specifically, some weaker nations that strengthened and modernized their military successfully resisted European imperialism. As a result, I emphasized the importance of modernization for certain smaller nations.
The following chart shows the overall averages on the pre-test and post-tests for my students. It also shows the percentage difference between the pre-test average and each post-test average.
Test Average % Difference from Pre-test
Ch. 12 and 13 Pre-test: 39.2% x
Ch. 12 Test: 74.8% 35.6%
Ch. 13 Test: 78.1% 38.9%
Ch. 12 and 13 Test Combined: 76.4% 37.2%
Students performed slightly better on the Chapter 13 test compared to the Chapter 12 test. Overall, student learning covered 37.2% of the missing information from the pre-test. However, the overall score shows that 23.6% of student learning (according to the content on the tests) is still missing.
