I am observing at Ingomar Attendance Center in Ingomar, Mississippi. Ingomar is a part of Union County.
For the world history classes, there are twenty-six students in first block and fourteen students in third block. In first block, seven of the students are male and nineteen are female. In second block, seven of the students are male and seven are female. All of the students are sophomores. The ages range between fifteen and sixteen years of age.
One of the students is on a certificate route. The majority of the students demonstrate average abilities. However, a few of the students demonstrate advanced abilities.
The majority of the students are white. Five students are black, and one student is Hispanic. According to statistics from 2012, the median income household in Ingomar was $38,187, which was 24% below the U.S. average. A lot of the students in the class seemingly come from middle class families though. A few of the students may come from families living right at or below the poverty line.
Students are typically express enthusiastic attitudes in class. Although there may be some exceptions, most of the students are actively involved in learning activities. The students are not very shy, so classroom discussions seem to be effective.
Ingomar is a small community. There are between forty and fifty students in the senior class itself. Everyone in the community knows each other fairly well. The school is also a K-8 institution. Most of the students have attended school together in the same location from kindergarten until tenth grade. These factors contribute to the students' shared sense of community. The students work well in groups as a result. Ingomar does not have a football team, but they are very serious about basketball. Many of the students in the classes demonstrate a deep concern for the basketball teams. Many of the students in the class are athletes themselves. The majority of the athletes play baseball, basketball, or both sports. A decent number of students are on the archery team as well. A few of the students are involved in band and cheerleading.
2. Knowledge of students’ varied approaches to learning (Include information from learning styles inventory)
Thirty-one of the students identified as visual learners on a learning styles inventory. Six of the students identified as tactile learners. Three students identified as auditory learners.
