Hello, my name is Dan Bell. I will soon graduate from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Studies Secondary Education. I am from Hernando, Mississippi, where I graduated from high school. I have taken and passed the Praxis exams. After graduation, I will be certified to teach secondary social studies courses and middle grade/ general science courses.
Out of all the subjects in social studies, United States history is the most interesting one to me. Most of my studies have focused on American history. My coursework in other fields heavily incorporated American studies as well. I believe that students who develop an extensive background in American history are well-equipped to participate in many different functions our society, including the political process.
I chose secondary social studies education for two reasons. I believe that our education system needs more capable people who see the importance of developing students' minds. I also believe that social studies is just as important of a content area as mathematics, English, and science. At times, social studies education can be overlooked. I want to help ensure that the content area remains relevant.
