For my authentic assessments, I created assignments that challenged students to create a persuasive letter and an opinion piece based on their knowledge of the content taught. The persuasive letter puts students in the shoes of Latin American or United States officials, depending on their choices. Essentially, students either defend or critique U.S. involvement in Latin America by writing letters to the opposing officials. The opinion piece puts students in the shoes of a journalist covering the Sepoy Rebellion. Students use their knowledge of the Sepoy Rebellion to either justify or critique the actions of the Sepoys.
